I Want to Live in the Future

People say be present, to live in the moment.
Thanks, but I want to live in the future.

In the moment, I want the second half of that pastrami sandwich.
Two hours into the future, with my belly feeling beyond full, I can’t figure out what the hell I was thinking.

In the moment I want that cookie for desert.
In the future, with the flavors long gone from my tongue, I regret every bite.

In the moment, the gin & tonic seemed like a good idea.
Six hours later, wide awake, staring in the early morning darkness, I vow to never touch alcohol again.

Why can’t I live more in the future, and less in the moment?
